Gyotaku BobjToday

One of my fav-o-rite things to do in Charleston is go to the City Market.  To see what the local artist are selling. I came across this artist that had these really neat drawings of fish. What first caught my eye was the pricing. $175 and up. The detail of the drawings were nothing short of amazing. Upon closer inspection it looked to me that these were some form of printing.

I researched fish printing and found Gyotaku. Japanese fish art. On You Tube there are several Gyotaku how to videos. I went to the art store and purchased a pad of rice paper.  I went up to Lake Lanier to do some fishing. I caught a decent sized Channel Catfish. I experimented with rice paper and paint until I figured it out. I printed a few that looked pretty good and gave them away. On those I used watercolor paints. For the two attached I used watercolor pencils.
