Charleston Life
Charleston Low Country Coastal Life! As usual we had a great time and did some new stuff that was really fun. One of the standouts was the ferry ride to Fort Sumter. The Park Ranger on the ferry gave a talk concerning the history of Fort Sumter and explained that we would be raising the giant American flag that flies above the fort. The flag ceremony was inspiring and our kids helped with other tourists to raise the flag which was a pretty good photo op. The ferry ride back was memorable because a thunderstorm kicked up in Charleston Harbor. Lightening-thunder-torrential rains-high winds-big waves…excitement all around!
We discovered some restaurants new to us Hank’s Seafood Restaurant and 5 Church Restaurant that were amazing and we hit some ol’ fav-o-rites Kaminksky’s Dessert Cafe, Bubba Gumps and Banana Cabana.
Our Stay at the Andrew Pinckney Inn as well as Wild Dunes on the Isle of Palms (WDIOP) was pretty much perfect. The weather cooperated with hot sunny days and cool ocean breezes. We had storms that were in the distance that gave us spectacular sunsets. Our kids had a wonderful time with their Mt. Pleasant cousins. They went fishing and caught several small Sand Sharks, Blue Crabs and one Stone Crab. They had a great time playing in the large tide pools and at night chased Ghost Crabs on the beach.
I have to say there is nothing better while on the beach than a Low Country Boil and nothing more refreshing after a hot day fishing than a fresh Shrimp Salad Sandwich with an ice cold Westbrook Gose beer. So good readers, I thought I would share some recipes with you.
If you’ve never been to Charleston there’s nothing like it. Bobj says make your way to ChuckTown!
